Watkinson School, located in Hartford, CT, seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented summer part-time employee to provide data retention and information management services during summer 2024.

As an independent, private coeducational day school for students from
grades 6-PG, Watkinson has been educating students for almost 150 years. Our Data Retention Program provides a standardized process to review records throughout our administrative offices for both practical and historical purposes. A primary goal of this initiative is to digitally retain data and reduce dependency on paper records. The successful candidate will work with several departments at Watkinson to provide data retention and information management services.

Successful candidates should possess the following attributes:

● Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
● Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with other team members
● Highly detail-oriented, with the ability to carefully review a variety of data
● Experience with Google platforms
● Strong time management and critical thinking skills
● Open to learning new technologies
● Ability to make recommendations for working efficiently and to communicate progress and roadblocks

This position will be responsible for:

● Creating and maintaining digital logbooks to identify and record data sources and types
● Reviewing records and identifying data to maintain, retain, or discard based on established guidelines
● Designing an identification system for record types
● Digitizing records to be retained
● Creating and maintaining an electronic filing system to store digitized records
● Properly filing or discarding records based on retention policies
● Other administrative tasks related to information management and data

This position will require the ability to:

● Use Google platforms and scanning software and hardware
● Work independently
● Be detail oriented

Watkinson School, offering innovative teaching to Hartford and surrounding communities since 1881, seeks a summer-only full-time elementary school teacher. SPHERE is a non-profit, five-week program for 60-70 Hartford and East Hartford youth entering grades 1-5 held at Watkinson School.

Daily classroom instruction is aligned with the Common Core State Standards in literacy and math. Teachers are encouraged to use technology to support instruction and promote student engagement. Other classroom practices that the SPHERE Summer Program incorporates are:

● Social emotional morning routines such as Morning Circles and mindfulness activities
● Skill-based learning stations
● Interactive Read Alouds and text discussions
● Using pre- and post-assessment and daily observation to drive instructional choices
● Positive reinforcement classroom management system as well as class and program-wide celebrations

Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to reaching all students in a heterogeneously-grouped class. They will do so by using creative approaches to instruction that incorporate both hands-on and minds-on learning while prioritizing fun, laughter, and opportunities for student choice. Successful applicants will also bring to the position a sense of enthusiasm, proactivity, and warmth as well as the ability to
develop and sustain positive relationships with parents, students, and summer program colleagues.

A bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field and proven successful experience teaching at this level is required. In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, this position includes supervising high school student counselors assisting in the classroom and occasionally moderating an afternoon activity.

Watkinson School, offering inventive teaching and learning since 1881, seeks a Day Porter. Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities, the Day Porter helps to ensure the cleanliness of the school while
also serving in other capacities to support the school and its community members. This is a part-time, 10-month or 12-month position.

Day Porter Job Description:
We are seeking an energetic and reliable day porter to perform day-to-day janitorial maintenance at our School facility. Overall duties will include removing refuse, maintaining common areas, restocking
bathrooms and responding to all cleaning emergencies.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, dedicated, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously. You will work with management to create an effective cleaning schedule, which will include
your day-to-day routines and work timetable.

Responsibilities:
 Prepare conference rooms before and after important meetings.
 Clean all common room areas including the dining hall, lobby, restrooms, and break room.
 When applicable, place safety hazard signs in the building including wet floor warning signs.
 Monitor, clean and service washrooms.
 Respond to any major spills or other cleaning crises.
 Remove litter and rubbish from main common rooms.
 Help order supplies required for facility maintenance.
Requirements:
 High school diploma or relevant qualification required.
 6 – 12 months porter experience.
 Able to work hours M-F, 12:00pm – 3:00pm
 Must be reliable and professional.
 Prepared to execute all duties and responsibilities in a safe and timely manner.

Watkinson School, offering inventive learning to Hartford and surrounding communities since 1881, seeks an experienced part-time dishwasher for their Dining Services program. This position performs a variety of duties related to food service and kitchen sanitation, including but not limited to:

● Gathering items from the servery and kitchen for disposal or washing.
● Scraping food from dirty dishes and placing them in racks.
● Washing worktables, walls, and work areas, and any other necessary cleaning.
● Setting up dishwashing and pot sink areas for service.
● Disposing of trash, recycling boxes, cans and bottles in their proper receptacles.
● Washing dishes, pots, pans, and any other necessary cleaning.
● Cleaning and sanitizing equipment following all required state and federal guidelines.
● Working occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed for special events.
● Daily/weekly cleaning and side work to ensure the facility is clean and sanitary.
● Other duties as assigned by the Director of Dining Services or Head Chef.

Qualifications:

● Ability to work as part of a team and communicate well with supervisor and co-workers, and students.
● Strong work ethic, a customer service orientation and an enthusiastic personality.
● Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
● Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
● Must know or be capable of learning food sanitation and safety procedures.
● Ability to follow directions in English, both written and oral.
