The Importance of Norms

by Upper School Head Ryan Reese and Middle School Head Jenny Esposito

In any school year it is vital for teachers and students to begin by establishing norms, an agreed upon set of standards to which each class, grade, team or activity agrees to adhere. This year, with the health and safety challenges imposed by a global pandemic, the norms took on a different focus and level of importance. In order to minimize exposure to large groups of people, whenever we’re on campus, students are separating into 3 mini-campuses, or “pods” — grade-level groupings that keep students in discrete clusters. This reduces the number of students and spaces they come into contact with on a daily basis to prevent cross-contamination. As such, here are this year’s Guidelines for Pod Schooling.
