City Scholars, implemented in 2017 as part of our five-year strategic plan, is a one-year program providing a post-graduate experience at The Academy at Watkinson for deserving Hartford public high school graduates.
The Academy is a bridge year for college-bound students who are not yet college-ready. The program combines classes at Watkinson, helping students strengthen their high school transcript, with classes at the University of Hartford to help students develop the confidence that college requires — and begin to earn college credit.
Watkinson has graduated three successful City Scholars so far. Three new City Scholars are enrolled for the 2021-2022 school year thanks to both individual donors and the Watkinson Golf Classic.
