Watkinson students attended the ADL’s Never is Now Summit in New York City for the sixth consecutive year (virtually in ’20 and ’21). 17 students from Chai (our Jewish affinity group), the Global Studies Diploma Program, and other interested Upper Schoolers attended workshops such as “Disinformation: How Social Media Shapes the 2024 Election” and “Voices Against Antisemitism: Influencers Shaping Change”. They also heard a powerful speech by US Attorney General Merrick Garland and engaged with students from across the US and Canada to talk about how to fight hate, extremism, and Antisemitism in our communities and beyond.
Director of Global Studies Jen O’Brien says, “Year after year, the ADL’s Never is Now Summit is an incredible learning experience for our students. The bus ride back from NYC is always abuzz with the students discussing what they just heard and how incredible all the speakers were. They return back to campus with having learned from the best how to fight hate and extremism, and they frequently share their insights back in their classes, clubs, and affinity groups. Probably the best feedback I get is when students come up to me and say they can’t wait to go back.”
