Jordan Karp ’18

A recent college graduate, Jordan is preparing for his first year of law school at the University of Florida!

Jordan reflects, “Watkinson prepared me for a career in public speaking by helping me come out of my shell while in high school.” He became more confident making all-school announcements about the Jewish holidays, chess club meetings, and tennis matches. Jordan worked hard on his senior project on the enigmatic chess player Bobby Fisher; so much so that he carried the subject over to a class in college and was very proud of his subject mastery because of the work he did at Watkinson. Jordan keeps his Watkinson connections strong by visiting with friends when he is home in Connecticut and continuing to read Watkinson notices from afar.  He loves hearing about what the Global Studies students are doing.

After Watkinson, Jordan graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor’s degree in International Affairs & Government and Foreign Language from Lafayette College this May. This week, he started law school at the University of Florida in Gainesville. (GO GATORS!)

Jordan was an accomplished student during his time at Watkinson, receiving the Sir Winston Churchill, Spanish, and Theodore Sizer Awards his senior year. In addition to being a member of our Vox Wat a cappella group, the Brass Kickers band, and the Chess Club, he was captain of the tennis team and earned a Global Studies diploma.

During his time at Lafayette, Jordan maintained a challenging schedule, not only double majoring, but also serving as President of the Lafayette Hillel Society and TEDx Lafayette. He also held various leadership roles in Delta Tau Delta including Academic Affairs Director, Philanthropy Chair, and Secretary, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. It’s no surprise that he was accepted to a top law school. When asked why he applied to the University of Florida, Jordan said, “I knew that I wanted to start my professional life in Florida, so UF Law — because of its size, location, community, rigor, and reputation — was the right school for me. I manifested my acceptance; I thought only positive outcomes and sure enough, I was accepted.”

In preparation for law school, Jordan interned this summer at a New York City-based law firm and had the opportunity to live in the NYC area. The University of Florida enrolled just under 200 students this year, and Jordan is looking forward to learning and growing alongside this group of talented students. He has interest in International, Environmental, Trademark, and Artificial Intelligence law and hopes to be able to learn about each one during his time in law school.

Watkinson is so proud of Jordan and wishes him the very best as he embarks on this new journey to law school.
