Girls Varsity Tennis
The Girls Varsity Tennis team may have only had 11 players, but what they lacked in depth, they made up for with spirit. This was a rebuilding year for our young squad, with 8 of the 11 players on our ladder in 9th and 10th grade. But the girls never got down on themselves or each other. They worked hard to improve their skills, they supported each other, and they had a great time while doing so. We may not have had a sparkling record, but Coach Kroch and Coach Herzog could not have been more proud of this group. Because what matters most is that girls had fun and pushed one another to be the best versions of themselves. Years from now, nobody will remember the victories and losses. But they’ll remember how much fun they had. That’s what truly makes a winning team.
FROM THE CAPTAINS
Amanda K. ’26 and Sophia B. ’27
Our girls varsity tennis season was filled with growth, teamwork, and determination. We are so grateful for Coach Kroch and Coach Herzog for their constant support, encouragement, and dedication throughout the season. They pushed us to improve both as tennis players and to grow as teammates, always keeping the season positive and fun. From exciting matches to practices that brought us closer together, this season created memories the whole team will never forget. Staying strong through both wins and losses, the team stuck together and fostered a spirit of community that made each day even more enjoyable. Thank you so much, coaches!

Girls Varsity Tennis
Most Valuable Player
Sophia B. '27
Last season Sophia was a dominant player at #4 singles, but this season was a different challenge, as early in the season Sophia was asked to step up and play at #1. There is no question that Sophia was the most valuable player to our team, but playing at #1 can be a thankless task. Being the top player means playing the top players from every other school. Sophia never wavered from the challenge, and all season long she was a steadying force on the team, both as captain and player. Sophia, we could not be more proud of you, and we are so excited to have you for one more year!

Girls Varsity Tennis
Most Improved Player
Talia H. '26
The season began in a shroud of uncertainty for Talia. She had never played in a competitive varsity tennis match, and in the first match of the season against Harvey, Talia was asked to play singles. Of course she won that match, and she would go on to win many more, ending the season with a winning record at 4 singles. It has been such a thrill to watch Talia find her confidence on the court, and in the process, to become an integral part of this team. Congratulations, Talia!

Amanda K. '26
This was a challenging year for Amanda; she was injured in just the third match of the season, and that would be the last time she played for Watkinson. Amanda has been such a reliable and kind presence on the varsity team since 8th grade, and even though she couldn’t play, she remained as vital to the team as ever, as a captain, a teammate, and even at times as a coach. Amanda didn’t have to step up in the way that she did in the wake of her injury, but if you know Amanda, you know she was always going to show up for her teammates. Congratulations on an incredible career, Amanda, and best of luck to you! We hope to see you back on the courts as an alum next year!

Paris W. '28
Coaches never know what will happen over the course of a season, but if you’d asked for one prediction it would have been this: Paris will bring the joy. And she did. Every practice, every match, every bus ride, Paris was at the center of it all with a beaming smile that was contagious. Just don’t mistake kindness for weakness, because Paris is a talented tennis player and a fierce competitor. Paris, we are so proud of you, and we cannot wait to see what the final two years of your tennis career will bring. Congratulations!

Boys Varsity Tennis
The Boys Varsity Tennis Team took another step forward this year, proving that they can be competitive at each spot in the lineup. We improved significantly throughout the course of the season and increased our number of individual matches won compared to 2025! Three-time captain William Herzog was a wonderful, calm leader in both practice and match settings. Both of our seniors, Sam Lyons and William Herzog, represented the team’s culture well and will be missed next year. We look forward to starting the 2027 season with a strong, athletic group of returning players!

Boys Varsity Tennis
Most Valuable Player
William H. '26
William had an outstanding season this year at the top singles position. As captain, he led the team in individual victories and maintained a consistent, strong level of tennis throughout the spring. His absence will be felt next year, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors!

Boys Varsity Tennis
Most Improved Player
Jasper S-L. '29
Jasper improved immensely throughout the season. When he joined the team in March, he was fighting for a starting spot on the varsity lineup. By the end of the season he had locked down the 2nd doubles position, using his net positioning and strong volleys to overwhelm his opponents. Jasper’s hard work in practice was apparent each day, and we’re proud to present him with the Most Improved Award!

Boys Varsity Tennis
McDonald Sportsmanship Award
Antonio G. '28
Antonio displayed strong sportsmanship in both practice and match settings this year. In practice, he consistently guided the team through drills and helped to pick up extra balls whenever possible. In matches, Antonio led with fair line calls and, in multiple instances, corrected his opponent when they had mistakenly given him an extra point. He continues to mature as a player and leader… We look forward to having him back next year!

Boys Varsity Tennis
Coaches Award
Deven W. '30
Deven is the ultimate team player. He played a variety of positions in the lineup this year and fought extremely hard at each of them. His eagerness to learn and improve elevates those around him on the court. During matches, Deven identifies patterns quickly and adjusts his game accordingly. His leadership abilities and competitive drive are impressive… the future is bright for Deven!

Varsity Ultimate Frisbee
With a 9-5 record and a 5th-place finish in the Connecticut Division I playoffs, this is one of Watkinson Ultimate’s best seasons in the last decade. We had contributions from all portions of our roster, with 9th-graders and new and returning players stepping into significant roles as the season developed. That influx of energy combined with the fruits of years of dedication on the part of our graduating seniors. Aria, Ja Seng Ra, Kat, Kelsey, Dylan, Henry, and Aviv: from the winter Sundays at Vale to the spring afternoons in the gym, on the road, and on our home turf, thanks for all you’ve done for the Thunder Rams!
FROM THE CAPTAINS
Dylan G. ’26
This team has been so amazing to be a part of this year, and the least I could do is thank my teammates and coaches for such a great season. Our spirit throughout the season and our ability to work together through the tough matches was awesome to see, and we all tried our absolute best no matter the conditions of the game. Also, thank you to my coaches for believing in my handling abilities and helping me grow into the ultimate player I am today, and I could not be where I am as a player without my teammates’ help on the way.
Aviv T. ’26
What an absolute privilege it has been to play ultimate frisbee at Watkinson. To be surrounded by a team culture that is positive, hard working, silly, and uplifting. To be led by coaches who are kind and dedicated, and who truly love the team that we all create. Cheers to another great year of knowing what the longest river in Africa is, finding windows, and bringing the thunder! Thank you Watkinson Ultimate, for absolutely everything.
Kelsey W. ’26
In the NEPSUL tournament that we play in every year, the Spirit Award is the same size as the Tournament Champion award because, in ultimate, spirit is just as important. But for Watkinson Ultimate, I like to think spirit is even more important. That’s not to say we don’t love to win, but at the end of the day, we’re always going to have a good time.
Our team wouldn’t be the way it is without our coaches constantly reminding us how important it is to have fun and encouraging us to create cheers and new inside jokes as a team. Thank you for another amazing year — Watkinson Ultimate will definitely be missed.

Varsity Ultimate Frisbee
Most Valuable Player
Aviv T. '26
In his pre-season goals, Aviv articulated his desire to play hard, to enjoy himself, and to keep Watkinson Ultimate culture the way it has always been. Mission accomplished! He neglected to mention this in those goals, but Aviv had a huge hand in making that culture what it is today, and this year has only deepened that impact on our team. His impeccable reads on defense and steady-handed, yet aggressive offense would be exceptional in their own right, but embodying what this sport is all about–playing hard and having fun while doing it–will continue to resonate long after he has left. Well done, Aviv!

Varsity Ultimate Frisbee
Most Improved Player
Dylan G. 26
Two assists, two Ds, and a virtually flawless handling performance in a playoff game. That was just our most recent outing, and it might have been Dylan’s best yet! From somebody learning to throw a few years ago to a stalwart part of our handler corps as a senior, Dylan’s growth as a player has been simply tremendous. He makes the right decisions with the disc, and he has been as eager to learn as anyone I’ve coached. Outstanding job, Dylan–congratulations!

Kelsey W. '26
Ultimate is governed by what we call “Spirit of the Game.” It is the belief that sportsmanship, respect, and competition are paramount. Kelsey has embodied what spirit of the game means ever since she first stepped onto the field. She is a fearless competitor who played almost every point for us in our biggest games, competed as hard as she could regardless of the score, and showed immense respect for the game and our opponents. Earning one of the co-spirit captain roles this year she showed everyone what it means to play the game the right way, and was an invaluable leader on our team this year. Congratulations, Kelsey!

Coaches Award
Henry B. '26
126. That’s how many total points Watkinson Ultimate scored during our season. Henry Buck threw half of them. Coaches are always talking about wanting to see players grow, especially if we get to coach them year after year, and it’s a short list of players who have shown as much growth as Henry has over his ultimate career. He has developed into a poised, smart, precise, “front-foot” ultimate player that was an invaluable presence on the field this year. He wears his passion on his sleeve, and when he and his teammates are all in sync it’s a thing of beauty. Congratulations, Henry!

Varsity Track
This season, the track team grew to an all-time high of 30 members and competed in almost every event. Watkinson sent 7 athletes to the New England Championships, and they competed with determination in a competitive field of athletes. As a team throughout the season, they supported one another and learned from each other – all while having a blast! Congratulations on a great season!
FROM THE CAPTAINS
Jayme V H. ’26
This season has been amazing, full of growth, teamwork, laughter, and hard work. It has been a pleasure to train with this team, and I’ve had so much fun while also being challenged by our coaches and the intensity of competition. I am incredibly proud of the progress everyone has made, but more importantly, everyone should be proud of themselves – whether they were trying something completely new or pushing themselves to improve from last season. I hope that next year everyone returns, and that those trying track for the first time come in with the same open mind and strong work ethic that made this year’s team so special.
Kyle H-B. ’27
Throughout the history of the Watkinson track team, the team has not had more than 20 people commonly, but this year we have had the biggest team that Watkinson has ever had with 30 people. This track team has brought a lot of dedication, determination, and humor. Coach T, Coach Roberts, and Coach Roach offered so much for this team and have helped everyone drop their time and get new personal bests. They did this by pushing us through hard workouts and coaching us to have the right mindset. Being a part of this team means a lot to me – it has made me more disciplined and given me an experience to compete in a sport that I have not competed in before coming to this school. Thank you so much Coach T, Coach Roberts, Coach Roach and the whole track team for making this season so memorable and enjoyable.
Desteni D. ’27
This season I was given the honor of leading the Varsity Track Team as a Head Captain. Every track season I view our team as a family, and this season was one of our biggest families yet. I am so grateful to be a part of this team to have seen it grow from about 6 athletes to over 30. This season was hard, but we all persevered with the extreme weather and last-minute scheduling changes. We all came out and competed to the best of our abilities. I would like to give a huge thank you to our coaches, Coach Tomlinson, Coach, Roberts, and Coach Roach for guiding us this season and giving us the space to grow as athletes. It is always a pleasure being a part of this team, and I can’t wait for the next, “no, I got my money. It’s my money.”

Varsity Track
Most Valuable Player
Jayme V H. '26 and Kyle H-B. '27
Jayme is a talented and versatile athlete who shows up to meets to compete. Skilled at both running and field events, this season she qualified for New England’s in 5 events. However, she is most valuable to the team as a mentor and leader. Her supportive guidance as a captain has been invaluable to the team, and we are grateful for all of her contributions. Congratulations, Jayme!
Kyle approaches competitions with quiet confidence and determination. Despite only being able to train on a track once a week, his focus and confidence at meets prove that he is resilient and a true team player and athlete. He ran consistently in the 4×100 relay in every meet and qualified for New England’s in the 200m. Kyle’s influence on the team is what makes him the recipient of this award; he handles adversity with strength and leads the team by example. Thank you for your leadership, Kyle!

Varsity Track
Most Improved Player
Harper J. '28
Dedication and hard work make Harper the rightful recipient of the Most Improved award. Her race times improved steadily throughout the season, and she took on the challenge of the 4×100 relay and the 300 hurdles with little experience. Equally as impressive is Harper’s commitment and work ethic; she listens, observes, learns, and then pushes herself to achieve her personal goals. We look forward to watching Harper continue to grow as an athlete throughout her high school career. Congratulations, Harper!

Nathan brings a smile, kind words of support, and love for his team to every practice and meet. He never complains, works hard, and is always open to feedback, setting an example for the rest of the team. He quietly offers support and encouragement to his teammates. Thank you for your contributions—you will be missed next year!

Jordy brings a smile, words of support, and love for her team to every practice. Her kindness and coachable spirit, always open to feedback, set an example for the rest of the team. She exemplifies true sportsmanship by offering encouragement and respect not just to her teammates but also to her competitors. Jordy always sets a high standard of behavior and performance, demonstrating that true excellence lies in the combination of both athleticism and character. Congratulations, Jordy!
Varsity Rowing
Riverfront Recapture is having its most successful rowing season in program history. No matter the weather, Riverfront athletes have trained five days a week. They earned impressive results at Saratoga Springs, where five boats won medals, including a historic gold in the Men’s Coxed 4+, the first in club history. At Northeast Regionals, every Riverfront boat advanced to the semifinals, with two boats making it to finals and qualifying for US Rowing Nationals in Sarasota, Florida, for the first time ever. It has been the fastest season ever for Watkinson rowers at Riverfront.

Middle School Ultimate Frisbee
The 2026 middle school ultimate frisbee season was definitely an interesting one! We played five games and we finished with a record of 4-1. We had a good amount of experience from last year, so we were able to jump into it right away this season. Our new players figured it out quickly and learned from our veterans and really were eager to play in games. Our effort during games was great and we took it to every team that we played. I want to give a special shoutout to those who actually wanted to play and learn more about ultimate this year. Only a few people actually made it to every game, so I am thankful to those students. Congratulations to those who put in the effort this year!

Middle School Ultimate Frisbee
Most Valuable Player
Daniel C. '30
Daniel was by far our most reliable player on the field this year! He played in every game and was willing to play in every point of every game. He used his athleticism to become an effective cutter and was one of our two best point scorers this season. He continued to work on his throws and his catches throughout the season, but he had a lot of experience to rely on from previous years. While Daniel was one of our best offensive weapons, it was his defense that stood out the most. He was always eager to guard the other team’s best player and did a great job with it. Congratulations Daniel on finally winning an MVP award, you truly deserved it!

Middle School Ultimate Frisbee
Most Improved Player
Cadence J. '30
Cadence came into this season knowing very little about ultimate frisbee, but she worked harder than anyone to improve. I remember throwing the frisbee with Cadence all the way back during the middle school retreat, and I knew that we had to get her on the team. Cadence has a raw athleticism from soccer and other sports that translated wonderfully to ultimate. She was able to pick up how the game worked super quickly and worked tirelessly on her throws. From start to finish, Cadence definitely improved the most out of anyone on our team and she is truly deserving of this award! She even played up on the varsity team and got some valuable reps there as well. I am looking forward to seeing what you can do on the ultimate frisbee field in the years to come. Congratulations Cadence!

Middle School Ultimate Frisbee
McDonald Sportsmanship Award
Finn W. '30
Finn was chosen for the McDonald Sportsmanship Award because of his consistent positive attitude and for being our captain this year! Not only was Finn one of the best players on the field because of his skill and understanding of the game, but because he was able to communicate positively and effectively with the other team multiple times throughout a game. Finn always has a great attitude and he was willing to share his experience with his teammates. He was also another one of our middle schoolers to get reps on the varsity squad, so his input and feedback to his teammates was always helpful. Finn led the team with assists this year and you can’t do that without being the ultimate team player. Congratulations Finn, I can’t wait to see what you can accomplish in the next few years!

Middle School Ultimate Frisbee
Coaches Award
Andrew B. '31
Andrew did a fantastic job this season and was one of our best cutters. He made up for the fact that his throws weren’t amazing by scoring the most points on our team. To be fair, you don’t have to be good at throwing if all you do is catch it in the endzone. However, Andrew was not just chosen for this award because he scored a lot of points. Andrew was chosen because he always had an amazing attitude and always did his best to improve his game. He was consistently asking questions about how to get better and did his best to implement feedback from his coaches into his game. He was another player who wanted to be out there for every single point and was excited and eager to play in every game. Any team that Andrew is a part of is instantly better off. Congratulations Andrew, it was a pleasure being able to coach you this year!
