Full-time Learning Skills Program Teacher
Watkinson School, offering inventive teaching to Hartford and surrounding communities since 1881, seeks a full-time Learning Skills Teacher for students in grades 6-12. Successful applicants will demonstrate creative approaches to instruction and a commitment to reaching all students.
Applicants must possess enthusiasm for working in a dynamic environment, teaching a range of students, and developing and sustaining positive relationships with parents, faculty, school leadership, and staff.
Qualified candidates are well-versed in special education and neurodiversity, with proven success supporting student learning, growth, and progress in their academic and organizational skills, including math support through Algebra II. Responsibilities include teaching in one-on-one settings, as well as the possibility of teaching a class within our academic program. Other duties include supervising clubs, being an academic advisor, and taking on other aspects of school life.

Athletic Trainer
Watkinson School, offering inventive learning to Hartford and surrounding communities since 1881, seeks a part-time or full-time Athletic Trainer to lead the School’s sports medicine program
and provide athletic training services for all Upper and Middle School students. The Athletic Trainer, providing coverage for grades 6-12, will work under the direction of the Athletic Director
to advance the needs of the school’s overall athletic program.
For full-time candidates, this is an academic, school-year position and therefore includes paid time off in accordance with the school schedule, including school vacations and summer break.
As a full-time role, this position may also include academic responsibilities, such as teaching, advising, or monitoring student activities. Part-time applicants will be considered.
Responsibilities
● Provide preventive care for student-athletes
● Evaluate injuries, provide treatment, and develop rehabilitation programs
● Assess, treat, and manage concussions
● Maintain accurate medical records of students’ injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation
● Review student health records and consent forms in partnership with the school nurse and athletic department to assess eligibility
● Partner with the athletic department in developing severe weather plans and emergency action plans
● Maintain a clean, professional and welcoming training room
● Manage sports medicine inventory and budgetary items
● Prepare game sites for practice and competition
● Prepare medical kits for off campus competition
● Provide practice and game coverage of the middle school and high school athletic programs
● Train coaches and educate parents about preventive safety precautions regarding concussion, cardiac arrest, and heat illness
● Administer ImPACT concussion testing
● Instruct CPR/AED/First Aid classes for coaching staff and faculty
Qualifications
● A bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field
● NATABOC certification
● CT state licensure or eligibility
● CPR/AED/First Aid certification required
● Excellent communication and organization skills
● Ability to work in a self-directed setting
Other Preferred Qualifications
● CSCS, PES or other strength and conditioning-related certification
● Previous Middle/High School experience

Director of Facilities
Watkinson School, an independent day school serving students in grades 6-PG, offering inventive teaching to Hartford and surrounding communities since 1881, seeks a full- time Facilities Director. Applicants must possess enthusiasm for working in a dynamic environment, be a strong team player and possess a passion for overseeing and caring for a busy and vibrant campus with 6 education-centered buildings, 4 homes, 2 sports fields, tennis courts and 40+ acres of land. This role carries responsibilities for managing major vendor partnerships and for managing employee teams that, together, ensure the health, safety and regular operations of Watkinson’s physical plant.
This position provides an ideal opportunity for a savvy facilities expert with demonstrated experience and knowledge of building systems, budgeting and expense management, contracting, campus safety and compliance. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of related work experience, preferably in a school environment or on a site with multiple buildings.
The Facilities Director will:
-Oversee daily operations of the facilities and grounds, including maintenance, preventative maintenance, custodial services, security, and building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety).
-Manage the school’s facilities request system, including assigning maintenance tasks to facilities team members.
-Maintain facilities shared calendars.
-Supervise the Plant Manager, Security Guard, Day Porter, and Night Porter.
-Co-chair the school’s Safety Committee and ensure implementation of safety drills and compliance requirements.
-Manage the involvement of facilities and custodial staff in all school events and activities.
-In collaboration with the CFOO, oversee implementation of facility rentals.
-Supervise the evening housekeeping vendor.
-Manage and maintain relationships with Hartford’s police and fire departments and with neighbors, including the University of Hartford’s public safety team.
-In collaboration with the CFOO, plan for use of the school’s annual capital budget and coordinate implementation of planned investments.
-Manage relationships and contracts with facilities contractors and vendors.
-Distribute critical communication about campus facilities, grounds, and safety to school employees and staff.
-Manage the School’s facilities and landscaping budgets.
-Facilitate scheduling and space planning for summer camp programs.
-Lead fleet maintenance and driver compliance.
-Be on call 24/7 to handle and respond to emergencies.
The Facilities Director will possess and utilize the following skills and dispositions:
-Experience in facilities management, building operations, or related fields
-Strong organizational, communication, problem solving and leadership skills
-Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations with a working knowledge of all construction trades.
-Knowledge of project management, scheduling and contractor management
-Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
-Willingness to work long and flexible hours- including evenings/weekends when needed
-A belief in and commitment to Watkinson’s mission and vision
-A sense of humor and enthusiasm for the work we do each day

Full-time English Teacher

The candidate must be an accomplished teacher who is active and current within the field and who is willing and able to help all students learn, grow, and progress.
Responsibilities include teaching upper school and middle school courses; these could include required year-long courses, as well as semester-long electives. Other duties include supervising clubs, being an academic advisor, and taking on other aspects of school life. Applicants should be prepared to share previous coursework and curricular design should they be contacted for an interview.
